Sit Conmigo Responsive Website Design

OVERVIEW

Yolanda Lopez, the owner of the ethical furniture design firm Sit Conmigo asked me to create a responsive, one page website for her company. The purpose was to showcase her sustainable designs and create a space for customers to find exclusive pre-order pieces from any device.

ROLE

I worked as Yolanda’s web designer, and directed layout, design and content decision for the site.

GOAL

Sit Conmigo is a burgeoning boutique furniture design business that needed a space to showcase their stylish designs and grow their customer base. The space also needed communicate the values of the company and to be accessible to audiences using a wide array of devices. A main focus was to grow pre-order sales in order to streamline production, ethically reduce material waste and promote authenticity of made to order works.

RESEARCH

Research for the project began with gathering relevant details that included Yolanda’s vision, goals and business information. Through open communications, the client emphasized the importance of the brand’s ethical and sustainable creative mission while allowing customers to pre-order specific designs.

WIREFRAME

The wireframe process started with a focus on the mobile design since most of Yolanda’s customers order from their phones. I positioned two of her most popular designs at the top with a clear call to action button centered on pre-orders. That flowed into the About Us section that explained the importance of the company’s mission. Based off of that initial design, I created wireframe versions for tablet and desktop sites that maintained the functionality, look and feel of the original site using Adobe XD.

TYPOGRAPHY + COLOR

From here, color selection began to form a complete visual aesthetic for the brand. Sit Conmigo had little previous materials to draw from, so I based the palate on colors used in their most prominent chair designs. Dark dreen, deep orange and warm browns reflected the idea of tropical forest trees and offered a feeling of grounded comfort.

To compliment these elements, I decided on Monserrat typeface for large and medium headers and buttons. The main copy areas used Al Banyan typeface to create a complimentary and easy to read style.

TAKEAWAY

I found through my experience with this client the importance of being able to translate designs through multiple formats, focusing on consistency of visual style and functionality. I also learned to streamline editing assets for inclusion in smaller formats like the mobile space while maintaining an effective user experience. I also learned the importance of understanding various screen size usability, where people tend to interact with sites based on how they hold the device. This also informed my creative process in social media marketing.

RESULTS

Through completion of this project, I had created three exciting design comps for mobile, tablet and desktop spaces for Sit Conmigo. All designs focused on the client’s needs of highlighting their fashionable, comfortable furniture designs, the sustainability mission of the business, and pre-order function for easy customer use.
